Lonely Shelter Dog ‘Whipped’ His Head Around When Woman Calls Him By His ‘Real Name’

In this heartwarming story, we meet a dog named Kano, who had been affectionately called Skillet by his shelter caretakers.

Kano’s journey started when he found himself at DeKalb County Animal Services in Georgia. Despite being a friendly and lovable dog, he spent five long months waiting for a new home.

As time passed and the shelter faced space constraints, Kano was transferred to LifeLine Animal Project’s adoption center in Atlanta.

Little did anyone know, this move would bring him one step closer to reuniting with his original family.

LifeLine Animal Project shared this incredible moment on their Facebook page, revealing the joyful news:

“Kano, formerly known as Skillet to his shelter family, has found his way home! He found the best outcome—being reunited with his family!”

It turns out that Kano’s “grandmother,” the mother of his previous owner, stumbled upon his photo while searching the shelter’s website.

She had a strong feeling that she needed to look for their lost pet, and this intuition led her to a beautiful reunion.

The woman shared that her son had raised Kano from a puppy in the Blue Ridge Mountains, describing him as the most affectionate and loving dog.

Unfortunately, when her son enlisted in the Army, the family was forced to rehome Kano. After being placed with a new family, Kano went missing, leaving them devastated.

“But something in my heart told me to search for him,” she told LifeLine Animal Project.

Following this gut feeling led her to discover Kano’s photo on LifeLine’s website, and she quickly made arrangements to visit him.

The magic of their reunion was undeniable. As soon as the woman called out Kano’s real name, the dog immediately recognized her, whipping his head around in disbelief.

It was a moment filled with joy and tears as everyone witnessed this long-awaited reunion. The volunteers were deeply moved by the scene, knowing that Kano had finally found his way back to his true family.

The woman spoke candidly about her feelings of guilt over their separation but expressed how much she still loves Kano.

“I felt like he was calling me, like I just knew he needed me,” she shared in LifeLine’s Facebook post.

“I tell him every day that I’m sorry, and I hope he knows how much I love him. I did the best I could at the time, but the guilt is still there.”

However, the bond between them was as strong as ever, and Kano’s joy during their reunion made it clear that he never forgot the love of his family.

In a happy turn of events, the woman had recently moved into a new home with a large fenced backyard for Kano to enjoy.

Though her son, who is about to be deployed, hasn’t yet been able to see Kano in person, the two have reconnected through FaceTime, where they share moments of happiness despite the distance.

Kano’s journey shows that sometimes life’s twists and turns lead us back to where we truly belong.
