Coco may not have anticipated seeing her name on the lights, but it did occur. Unbeknownst to her, the dog who had been moved from house to home finally found a new family and was on her way to becoming a celebrity.
According to Chloe Arrington, social media coordinator for the Lifeline Animal Project at Fulton County Animal Services, “Coco was a lost pet and was being taken care of by a member of the community for several weeks. [They] tried to locate anyone looking for her, but they could not keep her permanently.”
The lovely puppy ended up in the shelter after attempts to find her folks were fruitless. A foster family temporarily took her in, but they were unable to provide for her needs.
“She came back to the shelter and her new family came and adopted her,” Arrington said. “They had been hoping she would be available for adoption and, sure enough, fate stepped in!”
A leading part in Hulu’s “Prey,” a prequel to the Predator film, was the ideal opportunity for Coco’s new family, who are professionals in the entertainment world. The adorable canine assumes the role of Sarii, Naru’s dependable buddy (Amber Midthunder).
“Along with her family, she has a dedicated trainer now as well,” Arrington said. “Coco may have more roles in the future, as she is a pup who loves to be active and keep moving and learning. Having a job is a great fit for her.”
From Fulton Shelter to Super Stardom!
Fulton County Animal Services was thrilled to find out that one of our former residents has hit the bigtime. Coco, who came into our care at the beginning of 2021, is the breakout star of one of this Summer's biggest movie hits, Prey.
The latest installment in the Predator franchise, Prey was released on streaming service Hulu last week to its highest ever premier ratings. Viewers were raving about the movie but attention quickly turned to the lead character's four legged companion and Coco has now taken the internet and movie world by storm. Fans are referring to her as “…the Meryl Streep of dogs” on twitter.
Coco who has no film training and was adopted by her family specifically for this project, plays Sarii. She was originally meant to have a small role however her popularity among test audiences encouraged director Dan Trachtenberg to include more of Coco in the film.
Actress Amber Midthunder described Coco “…as a little bit of a hot mess — but in a sweet way.” on the press tour for the movie. And though she required a little extra patience and guidance on set, it was Coco's own joyful and playful personality that won the hearts of the cast and crew. And the response Coco is getting is proof that the extra care and patience paid off!
We are SO delighted that Coco found the life she has, and is now shining a light on the potential of shelter dogs and what they are capable of when given a chance.

Now, the former shelter dog is enjoying her life to the fullest while demonstrating to prospective pet parents the benefits of adopting rescues.
“She was originally meant to have a small role; however, her popularity among test audiences encouraged director Dan Trachtenberg to include more of Coco in the film,” according to the shelter’s Facebook post.
Midthunder, the film’s leading man, claimed that Coco was “… a little bit of a hot mess — but in a sweet way,” which, as she discovered, called for a little more tolerance with the rescue. In the end, everyone associated with the movie fell in love with Coco because of her “own joyful and playful personality.”
“The response Coco is getting is proof that the extra care and patience paid off!” the post added. “We are so delighted that Coco found the life she has, and is now shining a light on the potential of shelter dogs and what they are capable of when given a chance.”
