Senior Dog Who Lived Her Whole Life In Puppy Mill Picks Out Her Very First Toy

Every dog deserves a “puppyhood”, but a 10-year-old Yorkie named Katarina never got the chance until now. The tiny dog spent her whole life living in a cramped cage at a puppy mill. But that life changed for her when she was rescued by the Hub City Humane Society, in Mississippi, and placed with foster caregiver, Ashleigh Reader.

Katarina’s personality instantly began to shine with her newfound freedom and Reader immediately noticed that the Yorkie was fascinated with toys and decided a trip to Petsmart was in order.

Reader filmed what happened when Katrina was brought inside the store and let loose to pick her own toy. “This is what happens when you take a dog to Petsmart who has lived her entire life in a puppy mill! She was just a little excited!” said Reader.

“She has the sweetest personality regardless of everything that she’s been through,” Reader told The Dodo. “When I picked her up, she was obsessing over any toy she saw, so I figured she would want her very own toys. We went straight from there to Petsmart.”

Katarina ended up picking two toys, one being a squeaky corn dog that Reader says Katrina gave loving licks on the way home.

“Her foster parents have committed their home and hearts to this girl for 3 months as we get her dental and spay surgeries done and treat her heartworm disease,” the humane society says on Facebook of Katarina’s stay with Reader.

It looks like Katarina is making up for lost time when it comes to play time. I’m sure she’ll make her future family very happy!

    so happy for that sweet baby imagine 10 years in a cage that is so horrible at least she will have a few years in a loving home and play with her new toys .Poor sweet baby be happy

    So glad you rescued her. Well done. There is a movement going forward to shut down all puppy mills. Each state has their own name for it. Co.is Co. Citizens for Canine Welfare. The goal is to change the law. Only shelter dog and puppies will be sold in pet stores. Camden N.J. has already adopted this law. Teresa Straider is on the front lines. You should Google her & check out the videos. We all hate what is being done to these poor dogs. It is inhumane, brutal and all so some few can make big bucks. I had to put my puppy mill dog down after only 3 1/2y. Liver shunt. Bought her in a pet store. I was uninformed at that time.Now I know never buy a puppy from a pet store. They almost always are from puppy mills.

    Sweet girl. A Yorkie can never have too many toys, blankets and cushy beds! Playing is the one thing that makes my picky little girl hungry. Watch this little ones neck and avoid putting a leash on a neck collar. She is adorable! Thank You for rescuing her and showering her with love!
