Pug and Coyote’s Unlikely Friendship. It’s Amazing To Watch!

“True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island… to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep him is a blessing.” ~ Baltasar Gracian

The above is a beautiful quote about true friendship that these two unlikely creatures from different species seem to understand and live by…

Harvey the Pug has a bestie at the Gilbert riparian preserve. It's a coyote named Gilbert. Almost every time people visit, these two are seen playing together and playing hard.

It is really amazing that this even happens. Gilbert the coyote is young for one and there are massive amounts of rabbits, birds, cats, etc in this preserve so he isn't starving.

He seems to just relish the time he spends with Harvey the Pug. Watching these two play just makes me smile.

Just goes to show you can make friends with the most unlikely of candidates.

Check out the video on the next page to see the unlikely friends enjoy each others company.

  1. Not smart! Coyotes are highly intelligent and they wait to grab their prey. This young coyote will lead this pug to another. Never allow your dogs to play with coyotes! I’m surprised this site is encouraging this behavior.

  2. That is probably one of the dumbest fn things I have ever seen. I live in an area where Coyotes are constantly around. People post about missing pets, cats and small dogs never to be found. Well take a wild guess what happened to them? Wait until the adults stumble upon this pugs one day. The owner was saying….get em…wow…what an idiot!!!

  3. Seen this before with my sons dog and coyote and the coyote played and then would run off a little hoping the dog would follow. I thought how cute went upstairs to look out window and just over the knoll a who lack waited for the loan coyote to lure the doc close enough to attack. DONT BE FOOLED BY THAT BEHAVIOR FROM COYOTE.

  4. Cute but realistically coyotes attack and kill small dogs as instinct. The owner needs to be smacked in the head for not having intervened. The next meeting could be the last. I would take his pug away if I could.

  5. Meagan Rankin Really….you live in California (saskatoon). Calling people idiots…angry much? Go google: coyotes in oc ca and see what you find. Never said I was expert just based my statement on everyday experiences. Expert: not a wild coyote…yea…ok!

  6. Meagan Rankin Wow….what an angry person you are and you look angry in yourt photo too. Downshift life is too short. Too funny you can snap at something so simple. Enjoy those PRAIRES….you’re a yeller too. LMAO!!!!

  7. “Amazing” The caption reads, what’s truly amazing is how this Pug didn’t turn into coyote Chow! The only “friendship” going on is the marriage of the coyote’s taste buds and the Pugs flesh. Wake up! I’ve got 3 large dogs and a Pug in a fenced yard, and I’ve witnessed coyotes in my yard at night, the Pug isn’t allowed outside without our supervision, the large dogs are a deterrent during the day but, I don’t trust them to keep the Pug safe at night. Coyotes are too cunning.
