Police officer finds scared dog in stolen car — then gives her a new home

When you’re a police officer, you never know what surprises the job will bring. Recently, one Colorado officer responded to a call about a stolen car — and ended up making a very special new friend.

A few weeks ago, officers from the Boulder Police Department located a stolen car, and took the occupants into custody, according to the department.

But then, Officer Taylor noticed something unexpected in the backseat: a dog!

The officer comforted the sweet dog, who was a bit scared and confused by the whole incident. “Hey pup! You friendly?” he asks the dog. “You’re just a little scared, I get it.”

Taylor called the dog “Miss Bonnie.” After recovering her from the vehicle, the officers took her to the local humane society. Taylor left his contact information in case nobody came to pick her up.

A week later, the humane society called him up and said no one had come for the dog. The Boulder Police Department wrote on Twitter that it is unclear if the dog belonged to the vehicle owner as the humane society does not release information about previous pet owners.

So, Officer Taylor decided to adopt the dog himself! He said that Miss Bonnie has settled in well and gets along with his other dogs.

“She’s been just the cutest thing,” Taylor said in a video shared by the Boulder Police Department.

Many people on Twitter were moved by the story and thanked Officer Taylor for rescuing this dog not once but twice.

“Lucky pup! Thank you for your service,” one person wrote.

“She landed in the right hands with you, that’s for certain!” another tweet reads.
