This Caribbean Island Lets You Play With Rescue Dogs All Day

On the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, there is a rescue organization called Potcake Place, according to BuzzFeed, founded by a woman named Jane Parker-Rauw in 1997. They find homes for about 500 dogs a year. The organization encourages tourists and locals to come by and take all their adorable doggos for walks on the beach to help them get socialized, and if that's not Living the Dream, I don't know what is:

In 2010, Parker-Rauw started the walks because she noticed a lot of her puppies were shy and wary around humans. She wanted them to spend time with people who were friendly so they could get over their nervousness around humans, which makes it easier to adopt them. The program is so popular that sometimes people wait for hours before she even opens so they can get a Good Boy or Good Girl to take to the beach. And there are a lot of rules!

“All puppies wear a harness, as well as a collar, for these walks, and of course, a leash which must remain on at all times,” Parker-Rauw told BuzzFeed. “People are told to make sure that the puppy is in the shade and does not get too hot, pick up all puppy poop, only give the approved treats that we provide, and see that the dog can't tug at the leash.”

That also seems reasonable. I would not want to go to the beach if no one was picking up puppy poop. And most of the pictures tagged as Potcake Place on Instagram also seem to feature Instagram models? So If it isn't enough to play with an adorable puppy in the ocean's surf, there's that. Fitness inspo plus cute dogs.

Despite the great photo opportunity, you gotta keep your mind on the dog at all times.

“We want people to understand that this is not an excursion and that we are doing it solely for the benefit of the puppy,” Parker-Rauw explained to BuzzFeed. “Please be understanding if either no pups are available or if the one that you want is not.”

That's reasonable. The great thing about Potcake Place is that even if you don't get a puppy, you're still on a Caribbean island beach. Win-win.
