As the state of Texas has continued to brace itself for the continued effects of Hurricane Harvey, there are some who find themselves wondering why animal owners are not doing right by their pets during this time of emergency. This photo was taken this past Saturday and it shows a dog who was tied to a pole. The poor animal was chained up and left stranded during one of the worst natural disasters of recent memory.
Just imagine being chained to a telephone pole and being forced to watch flood waters rise around you. The photographer who is responsible for taking the photo also took the time to release the animal from its horrific prison. Flash flood warnings are still being issued in various areas of the state and Texas residents are being urged to watch over their pets.
Pets are a part of the family and they deserve to be treated as such. There is no reason to leave livestock or pets tied up in the elements and the dog above is not the only one who has been found abandoned. Police officers in these regions are letting citizens know that they will most certainly be held accountable for any actions that contribute to the death of their pets.
Texas has passed laws against this type of behavior and these rules are going to be strictly enforced. Kudos to law enforcement for laying the law down early on and letting people that any sort of animal endangering behavior is not going to be tolerated under any circumstances. Hurricane Harvey has many Texans wondering what is next.
It will take some time and effort to clean up the after effects of this storm and the storm is also expected to continue attacking the Lone Star State well into next week. The most destructive aspects of the storm are believed to be on the horizon and that is why animal owners need to be fully aware of the consequences of their actions now.
Otherwise, they could make a mistake that proves fatal to their pet and also causes them to be placed in jail in the process. Don’t let yourself become the sort of inconsiderate soul that leaves an animal tied up and alone during a storm of this magnitude. Disaster declarations have been made for at least 50 counties and these storm surges are not expected to stop anytime soon. Please share this story to raise necessary awareness.
If you see any pets left behind, please contact local animal service.

First – take a picture. Second rescue the dog. Cause, if you just rescue a dog, without taking pics and vids – nobody will call you a hero. Sick World!

People who do this don’t deserve animals because they r animals that do this to them

Single or not, you free your animals so they might have a chance of escaping and surviving. You don’t condemn them to certain death. If you can’t use your head, don’t have animals (or kids).

Most of the time people only care about there selfs , I don’t belive in tying dogs up there for love and conpanionship. God bless those people that are there to rescue all the pets and people .

People that tied the dogs up. Should be tied up as well. Some people are so cruel they do not deserve to have a dog or any other pet.

Who chains their dog to anything ? That itself should be against the law never mind buggering off and leaving them. Some people don’t deserve pets. Cockwombles.

I feel horrible for everyone affected in Texas. But there is no excuse to keep anything tied up to allow it to drown and not even have a chance.

I don’t think people are complaining, they are expressing their opinion about mistreatment of animals that could have been untied, unchained (which by the way is a horrible way to treat any animal) to at least have a fighting chance.
No one is saying they don’t care about those affected.

I don’t get the reasoning. If you leave then untethered, they at least have a small chance. But to leave them and secure them gives them no chance at all. WHY

If the dogs have tags, hope someone reads them to find out the names of these lousy owners and make them public. Decent people have the right to know who they are. If you can’t take your pet with you, turn them loose and hope they can escape. Tying them up means they can’t get away as the flood waters rise.

Total ignorance. Give them a chance at least, if you are not taking them with you, which is bad enough. Shame on those owners.
