Some People Left Their Dogs Tied Up To Die During Hurricane Harvey

As the state of Texas has continued to brace itself for the continued effects of Hurricane Harvey, there are some who find themselves wondering why animal owners are not doing right by their pets during this time of emergency. This photo was taken this past Saturday and it shows a dog who was tied to a pole. The poor animal was chained up and left stranded during one of the worst natural disasters of recent memory.

Just imagine being chained to a telephone pole and being forced to watch flood waters rise around you. The photographer who is responsible for taking the photo also took the time to release the animal from its horrific prison. Flash flood warnings are still being issued in various areas of the state and Texas residents are being urged to watch over their pets.

Pets are a part of the family and they deserve to be treated as such. There is no reason to leave livestock or pets tied up in the elements and the dog above is not the only one who has been found abandoned. Police officers in these regions are letting citizens know that they will most certainly be held accountable for any actions that contribute to the death of their pets.

Texas has passed laws against this type of behavior and these rules are going to be strictly enforced. Kudos to law enforcement for laying the law down early on and letting people that any sort of animal endangering behavior is not going to be tolerated under any circumstances. Hurricane Harvey has many Texans wondering what is next.

It will take some time and effort to clean up the after effects of this storm and the storm is also expected to continue attacking the Lone Star State well into next week. The most destructive aspects of the storm are believed to be on the horizon and that is why animal owners need to be fully aware of the consequences of their actions now.

Otherwise, they could make a mistake that proves fatal to their pet and also causes them to be placed in jail in the process. Don’t let yourself become the sort of inconsiderate soul that leaves an animal tied up and alone during a storm of this magnitude. Disaster declarations have been made for at least 50 counties and these storm surges are not expected to stop anytime soon. Please share this story to raise necessary awareness.

If you see any pets left behind, please contact local animal service.

  1. I couldn’t get this to open, but if for whatever twisted reason they left their dog behind, they could have at least left them free. That way, they would have had, at least a small chance of living. There is no way I would leave my cats alone to face a hurricane. Where I go, they go.

  2. why tie them up? at least give them a fighting chance and let them try save themselves if the disgusting owners wont try and save them. my animals are just as important as anyone if not more so cos they depend on me.

  3. Prove this! It seems as though you nut cases thought these people she swim out and save the dog and let their children drown! This$#%&!@*happened so fast and without warning you idiots. I hope some day this happens to all of you who think people should save their pets over their children. You sickos!

  4. Jen, how do you tend to grab all your children, animals and if your parents are bed ridden? Switch the light bulb on in your head please! If they did not care about there animals, they would not even attempted to tie them. For$#%&!@*sake! Lets talk again when flood water turned your life up side down. Zip It!

  5. Dont you think the parents grabed there children first???????? How many arms do you have??????? Normal humans has two. I do understand the sadness! I do not have children and for that reason I am able to grab my animals first. Please think out of the box if it is even humanly possible for you to do so.

  6. I really hope that you are never in a situation like that. I can see how you will drown in your own stupidity. Those people that tied there dogs, took the humans to dry land and would return. That is the thing of Facebook, you see one photo, but not the next. If you followed the WHOLE story. You would see that there is a boat that collected ALL the animals. The people of the boat walked in the water next to the boat, that they could load as many animals as possible at a time on the boat.

  7. I would never leave my dogs behind. I don’t understand how anybody could but why tie them up? They don’t even have a chance to save themselves. So cruel. Pets are family take them with you!
