As the state of Texas has continued to brace itself for the continued effects of Hurricane Harvey, there are some who find themselves wondering why animal owners are not doing right by their pets during this time of emergency. This photo was taken this past Saturday and it shows a dog who was tied to a pole. The poor animal was chained up and left stranded during one of the worst natural disasters of recent memory.
Just imagine being chained to a telephone pole and being forced to watch flood waters rise around you. The photographer who is responsible for taking the photo also took the time to release the animal from its horrific prison. Flash flood warnings are still being issued in various areas of the state and Texas residents are being urged to watch over their pets.
Pets are a part of the family and they deserve to be treated as such. There is no reason to leave livestock or pets tied up in the elements and the dog above is not the only one who has been found abandoned. Police officers in these regions are letting citizens know that they will most certainly be held accountable for any actions that contribute to the death of their pets.
Texas has passed laws against this type of behavior and these rules are going to be strictly enforced. Kudos to law enforcement for laying the law down early on and letting people that any sort of animal endangering behavior is not going to be tolerated under any circumstances. Hurricane Harvey has many Texans wondering what is next.
It will take some time and effort to clean up the after effects of this storm and the storm is also expected to continue attacking the Lone Star State well into next week. The most destructive aspects of the storm are believed to be on the horizon and that is why animal owners need to be fully aware of the consequences of their actions now.
Otherwise, they could make a mistake that proves fatal to their pet and also causes them to be placed in jail in the process. Don’t let yourself become the sort of inconsiderate soul that leaves an animal tied up and alone during a storm of this magnitude. Disaster declarations have been made for at least 50 counties and these storm surges are not expected to stop anytime soon. Please share this story to raise necessary awareness.
If you see any pets left behind, please contact local animal service.

A family in Dickinson Texas left their two boxers on a bed in the bedroom and then the humans swam to safety. They had the audacity to put up a plea for help on Facebook for someone to rescue them. Even gave their address. Anyone see that post? Have an update?

They are some heartless human beings in this world… they should be treated the way they treat the animals, how does it ” TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED”

It was not done on purpose, I think. I think in the panic they just did not wanted there pets to get lost. We all do stupid things when we are in a panic.

Horrible! I’ve read posts about people choosing their children over their pets – and understandably so- but why tie up the dog, giving it no chance to escape??? I don’t understand such cruelty
