Mount Leuser National Park in Bukit Lawang regency of North Sumatra, Indonesia, is home to the critically endangered Sumatran orangutans.
This video, captured by a tour guide named Eddie, shows how a clever orangutan mom shielded her baby from the rain.

As it started pouring heavily in the park, Eddie noticed the orangutan picking up a giant Caladium leaf.
The orangutan then proceeds to cover her baby with the leaf like an umbrella, and protect the baby from getting wet, while the baby clings on to his mom!
Sadly, the 42-year-old Eddie also noticed some orangutans in the distance, trying to cover themselves with the help of plastic bags.
Orangutans have advanced skills when it comes to devising tools to fit special purposes, and this video perfectly captures that!

Young orangutans are highly dependent on their mother’s love and care for survival, so mothers develop a strong empathy when it comes to their kids.
We are thankful to Eddie for sharing this rare orangutan moment with the world. What a magnificent creature!
