Dog That “Stunk And Bled All Over The Couch” Becomes Her True-Self

Lauren Buckley became a dog rescuer once she met a dog named Brooks. Brooks was stuck in an overcrowded shelter at the top of the euthanasia list.

She rescued him and the two have been inseparable since. Once Lauren realized how much she could do to help dogs like Brooks, she opened her heart more.

If there were other dogs like Brooks she could help, then she would! Soon, Lauren was helping another dog in need.

“We saw [pictures of] Lainey and her brother posted on Facebook on Christmas Eve by the Good Samaritan that found them. He couldn’t keep them and we knew we had to do something,” Lauren told Bored Panda.

Lauren reached out and offered to take in Lainey. While she had seen her photos, she still wasn’t totally prepared. The poor dog was in terrible condition.

According to rescuers, “She stunk and bled all over the couch.” Seeing her was heartbreaking!

At the vet, Lainey was diagnosed with mange and secondary infections. This poor girl needed a lot of healing and a lot of love. Her severe infections were life-threatening.

Lauren worked around the clock to care for Lainey. “We had her for four months,” she said“She took daily antibiotics and ivermectin for the full four months. In addition, we gave her coconut oil in her food, applied it to her skin, and gave her twice-weekly medicated baths. We also did our best to keep her stress level low since Demodex thrives on stress.”

It took quite the effort but Lainey’s health improved. This sweet, sickly dog transformed slowly into who she was always meant to be.

Once Lainey was out of the woods, Lauren’s friend reached out wanting to adopt her. “It feels [like a] full circle,” Lauren said. “She and her husband are incredible, kindhearted people who were smitten with Lainey from the get-go. We could not have asked for a better family for her.”

While all dogs deserve their happily ever after, we are elated that dogs like Lainey that are wasting away in shelters, can put that tragic past behind them, for good!
