An injured stray puppy was transported to safety after being discovered by a passing cyclist who was traveling with a group of mountain bikers in the woods near Columbus, Georgia.
The five-month-old great dane mix pup, since dubbed Columbo, found the cyclists and they quickly realized that he was in need of serious help.
Jarrett Little told CBS News, “We stopped to regroup and he came out of the woods to greet us. He was really thin, ribs showing and had a lot of road rash and a broken leg.”
The cyclists knew that the injured pup, who had apparently been struck by a car, couldn’t be left behind, but nobody had a vehicle.
Fortunately, Little was willing to give the puppy a ride – on his back! A photo of the pup hitching a ride was posted to Facebook:

The pair made their way into the town of Columbus and it was there they they ran into Andrea Shaw, a woman who was visiting from Maine.
Shaw took an immediate interest in the injured puppy and decided to help with his veterinary needs – then she went a step further and decided to provide the former stray with a forever home.
Little told the news agency, “She paid for him to have his leg repaired with surgery and found an organization that could help get him back to Maine to live on her horse farm.”
The rather awesome photo of Columbo on Little’s back, and the incredible rescue tale, has been popular on social media.
In fact, the formerly homeless puppy now has his very own Facebook page (Adventures of Columbo) with thousands of fans who eagerly wait to see how he is faring in his new home.

I love my BIG brother Luquillo. He’s a 13 year old German Warmblood. Mom says he’s a fancy dressage horse.

I finally got to meet my Daddy and my kid!! And I love them so so much! Christopher said the I’m his dog because Mom has Pluto and Dad has Levi so I get to be HIS!!
