Idaho Dog Rescued from Top of Tree After Chasing a Squirrel

In Idaho, a dog became momentarily stranded at the top of a large tree while pursuing a squirrel incessantly.

According to a Facebook post from the Caldwell Fire Department, which provided pictures from the rescue, the cooperative efforts of Caldwell firemen and police officers helped bring Izzy, a cute pit bull-husky mix, safely to the ground last Wednesday.

In the comments section, Christina Danner — the dog’s owner — explained, “He was the runt of the litter. He did not learn his lesson. He’s been whining all morning trying to get out and get that squirrel.”

In the pictures, firefighters from the city can be seen using a ladder to hoist Izzy from the branch he was perched on at the top of the tree. They jokingly stated in the caption, “Well, definitely not a cat in a tree.” “Perhaps he won’t chase squirrels with such tenacity the next time.”

Izzy was given a bowl of food to eat after being saved, and Danner noted in the post’s comments that he had “never even come close” to catching the squirrel and was still “pacing” in an effort to find it.

Izzy’s pursuit also made the Lebanon Fire District in Oregon, Idaho’s neighbor, laugh, saying: “Well, that’s a new one we haven’t seen before….”

The American Kennel Club claims that part of the predatory background of dogs includes an interest in the movement of small creatures.

The AKC stated on its website that a squirrel slipping across the yard is frequently the fastest way to grab a dog’s attention. Lots of dogs enjoy patrolling the backyard for the presence of squirrels, birds, rabbits, and other small animals.
