Husky dog is left on the side of the road by owner, but soon finds a loving new home

It’s shocking how many people abandon their pets in heartless ways. We’ve seen too many stories of people leaving their pets behind, not caring what happens to them.

But after one poor husky was abandoned on the side of the road by his owner, it didn’t take long for him to find a happy ending with a new loving family.

Yesterday, a video went viral showing a man leaving his Siberian Husky dog on the side of the road in Horizon City, Texas. A man is seen getting out of the car with the dog, removing his collar and then driving off without him.

In the most heartbreaking sight, the dog runs after the car, not realizing he’s been abandoned.

The dog’s abandonment was caught on camera by a bystander and soon went viral online, with many people shocked and saddened by the cruel act.

“I don’t know how those people could get in that vehicle, see that dog in the mirror running behind them and then just drive off. I don’t know how you could do that as a human being,” Ronald Comeau, a pet rescuer from El Paso, told KFOX14.

It also got the attention of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, who began an animal cruelty investigation into the man. They also said that they had the husky in their care after arriving on the scene.

“The canine is in good health and has been placed with a local animal rescue stakeholder,” they wrote. “The Sheriff’s Office detective assigned to the Animal Cruelty Unit is currently assigned the case for investigation and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.”

“These crimes against our voiceless animal victims are taken seriously and we actively seek to hold suspects accountable for these cruel acts.”

Currently, it seems the driver has not been identified, and the investigation is still ongoing.

However, there was one inspiring update about the husky: he’s already found a new forever home!

Among the people moved and heartbroken by the video were a local family, who knew they had to take the poor dog in.

“It’s very heartbreaking for this animal who couldn’t understand why they were leaving and chased after the car,” the new family told KTSM. “I saw the video of him being dropped off and when I saw his face, I was like that’s my dog.”

The family immediately assured the husky he was in more loving hands now by bringing him lots of gifts, including toys, supplies, a pool and his own bed.

They named him Nanook, after a character from the movie The Lost Boys.

“The dog’s name was Nanook and the fact he was a lost boy, he’s not lost anymore,” the family said.

“I think he’s doing us an act of kindness by completing our family, he’s doing this for us more than us for him.”

It’s a happy ending for Nanook, but local animal rescuers emphasized that many too dogs are abandoned like this all the time. People need to be on alert for situations like this.

“It’s just heartbreaking, troublesome,” Barbara Valencia from the local Huckleberry Hound Rescue group told KTSM. “We’re seeing this on an everyday basis the only reason it got so much attention is because someone videotaped it, but it’s happening every day.”

It’s unthinkable how anyone could abandon their dog so heartlessly, but we’re so glad Nanook has a loving new home.
