Family Comes Home From Church, Finds Dog Bleeding Out On The Porch Along With A Note

Angie Laymon and her family came home from church to find their dog, Bruno, bleeding out on the front porch. Aside him, was a note from the Rogers County police.

The family rushed Bruno to the vet, where doctors told the family there was a 50/50 chance he would survive. The family was a wreck because they did not have enough money for the surgery. Luckily, the family was able to raise money for Bruno’s surgery. Bruno survived, but lost his leg…

“While our family was away from home there was a disturbance at a neighbor’s house which resulted in a call to Rogers County Sheriff. The deputy who answered the call decided to come over to our house, but nobody was home,” Laymon posted to Facebook.

“The deputy encountered my German Shepherd and disregarded the canine warning and continued to approach the house. Upon reaching the house, he felt threatened and shot my dog. Then he taped a note to the door to inform me that he shot my dog – and he left my dog bleeding out on the porch.”

The Sheriff’s Department told Fox23 News that they did attempt to contact Laymon but could not reach her. Yet, they offered no explanation why no medical attention was sought for Bruno.

In her post on Facebook Laymon wrote: “The deputy had multiple options at his disposal….get back in his car, use mace, get medical care for the injured animal that was suffering. Senseless…unnecessary…avoidable. The dog was 100 yards or better in the interior of my property doing his job.”

I think he believes he gets to go home now…..wish this journey wasn't so tough on him

“Thousands of people are heartsick at what has been done to Bruno. It is horrible, it is tragic, it is heartbreaking for my children to have witnessed it,” Laymon wrote on Facebook. “But what if someone decides to take revenge? What if someone takes the name that I share and takes justice into their own hands. What if another senseless tragedy follows the first?”

“I do want Rogers County to take a good hard look at protocol and realize that pets are family members and that this should have been avoided,” she wrote. “We truly hope that this brings about change. We would like to see each and every officer of the law receive training on how to deal with pets and animals – especially when they are on private property. We want to open their eyes to know that these are not just pets – they are members of the family. We want there to be protocol on support and treatment when an officer wounds an animal – something more than leaving it on the porch to bleed out with a simple note stating the obvious.”

“He gets to come home. At the end of the day, leg or no leg, he will get to come home and that’s the silver lining,” Laymon told KJRH.

All I know is that someone at the Roger’s County Sheriff’s Office has some explaining to do…

    If you are too big of a sissy to deal with a dog, perhaps another career path would be better for you and the community. ZERO officer fatalities from dog attacks in the U.S. last year

    I’m the last to 2nd guess the police, but in this case their idiots and should be held accountable for not getting the dog help immediately, especially after they realized they screwed up

    What in the$#%&!@* fired! When a police officer has to shoot a human they call for ambulance to save them even after they had to shoot them, should be no different for a dog. That’s so traumatizing for those doggie parents and clearly animal cruelty charges should be filed because if any citizen did that they would be charged for leaving that poor dog to suffer

    Who do the police think they are? I’ve read many articles about the police coming on property for good and not so good reasons, only to learn they have shot somebody’s dog. What is wrong with them? I understand they are the police, but they are not gods.

    This is totally irresponsible on the part of the police department. The homeowner posted the dog warning on their property. The fact that he failed to heed it is not excuse for this action. The police should reimburse the vet bill and the officer fired for leaving the dog bleeding and unattended with medical attention. That police department seriously needs to revise its policies, methods and training.

    Get a few friends together and catch that worthless pos cop and give him a blanket party one night and put him within an inch of losing his life maybe a leg or arm for good measure!! If it was my dog I’d probably just shoot the worthless pos and not worry about the problem!! Sick of what’s going on in this Country people better start standing up for themselves and their Country!!!

    Hope that jerk pays every dam Penney for the injuries. I would sue his pants off. Who does he think he is. Make his life miserable as hell. Poor she. Glad he will be ok. The story stinks but since I’m a shepherd lover I’m sick over it. Glad it wasn’t my dog That’s all I’m saying. May god bless the dog.
