I couldn’t hold back the tears when I read what this family did to an abandoned dog in his final days.
Butch the Boston Terrier lived off garbage and drifted through the Birmingham neighborhood of Pinson for 2 and a half years before anyone took notice, AL.com reported.
The abandoned dog occasionally got fed by neighbors, but help never came and he wasn’t rescued. So Butch continued to live outside, just surviving, until a week before Thanksgiving when he collapsed in a yard.
Alicia Buzbee and her daughter Kansas Humphrey found him. They lived in a nearby neighborhood and came to his rescue, immediately contacting Birmingham Boston Terrier Rescue for help.
After the vets examined him, it was clear Butch was a very sick dog, despite being around 4 to 5 years old. His heart was swollen, his trachea was leaking and he had virtually no lung capacity. There was nothing to do to help him except to humanely euthanize him.

That’s when Alicia and Kansas decided to fill his final days with all the love he deserved and never got.
Butch got to eat hamburgers and pumpkin pie. He played with toys and cuddled with Kansas. They threw him a big party in the park where he got to meet lots of new friends.
Here’s a video of Butch having fun playing with Kansas.
All the attention and love gave Butch renewed energy, but it wasn’t meant to be.
A few days after Alicia and Kansas had rescued him, Butch collapsed again. It was time to say goodbye.
“Before he goes, I want him to look into my eyes, and I want to look into his eyes, and I want to whisper, I love you. I love you. I love you,” Buzbee told Al.com. “I want him to hear those words and to see those faces of the people who love him.
If there was any blessing in Butch’s short, but cruel life it was that he crossed the Rainbow Bridge knowing true love.
