Police dogs, often referred to in North America as “K-9″s (which is a homophone of canine), are dogs that are specifically trained to assist police and other law-enforcement personnel in their work…
…such as searching for drugs and explosives, searching for lost people, looking for crime scene evidence, and protecting their handlers.
The most commonly used breed is the German Shepherd. But don’t underestimate our Boxer Friends!
This A-M-A-Z-I-N-G (and I repeat, AMAZING!!) German Boxer, has made over 500 arrests in less than 4 years as a police dog!!!!!!! MUCH more than most human police in their whole careers.
Watch the video on the next page and be amazed by this Extreme Police! K9 style!

They’re excellent dogs for defensive training, which is what they’re showing there. He’s a police dog, not some random dog.

I understand that, but the excess muscle and fierceness is unusual for a Boxer and must be encouraged by humans.

when a boxer grips something they can hold on and on as they can still breathe due to there chops – one night a dog attacked our boxer, a big softie, he was not being bitten again and got the other dog’s mouth and his and held on and on until dad could get them apart – when we got home we saw that the other dog had bitten chunks out his face before he grabbed him

They are a very intelligent breed who have served as war dogs guard dogs and as service dogs including seeing eye dogs. As with other breeds of German decent they are protective of family especially of children. An all round awesome breed. It is said once a Boxer has owned you no other breed matches up. As a Boxer lover I find this to be totally true.

Yes when off duty they usually become the complete clown of the dog world.

Training the same as other police dogs. They are never abused because if they were they would not willingly work. This breed was bred as a working breed.

Boxers were originally bed to be fighting dogs
Fran Koblum

Boxers were not bred as fighting dogs but bred to be a med sized guard dog for farms and estates. They were then used as fighting dogs and in the horrible sport of bull baiting by idiots. Those aggressive traits have been bred out of the breed by responsible breeders. Unfortunately like any other purebred dogs some people who shouldn’t own a dog much less breed them are messing up one of the best dogs in the world. Always purchase your Boxer from a responsible breeder. Unfortunately Boxers are s breed that has quite a few health issues. Being prone to getting cancer as well as heart disease.

Thst trait has been bred out of the modern Boxer. A well trained and socialized Boxer is a joy to own. They will protect their home and family no doubt. I found my females to be more protective and teary to rumble with other dogs than my male. The male was a big marshmallow.

It’s no surprise really. It’s one of the jobs they were bred for. The Boxer is one of the most versatile breeds I’ve seen. Their single minded focus, tenacity and eagerness to please their handler’s make them excellent police dogs.

Yes, Ora. They were first used in bull baiting. When that became illegal they were used to fight other dogs but they really shined as hunting dogs also and we’re used for large prey such as bear, deer and elk.

This is same for my boxer Dexter. He runs off or ignore small dogs, any dog of his size or bigger… could be fight on. Was told by trainers that he is just protecting his own pack. Got to love him anyway

The military also used them for guard dogs. My mom grew up with a retired military guard Boxer. And Lysbeth Lynn Hirsch, what you see in the video is already in the Boxer nature you just have to train it to reveal it more. My female, Maggie (I lost her to cancer in 2010) would instinctively guard me, and even my other Boxer, all the time. She would always get between me and strangers, she would growl if she felt threatened, and I had no doubt in my mind that she would lay down her life if it came to that. She once jumped a massive great dane on a beach because it made a move to attack my other Boxer who dropped a ball in front of it and invited it to play with the usual Boxer play bark and bow. The dane growled and lunged and Maggie was on top of him in a second. They protect family, it’s what they do.

Oh, and Lysbeth Lynn Hirsch, go to the website at the end of the video. They raise and train only working German Boxers. Their dogs are awesome! When you get a puppy ($2000-$5000) you actually have to sign a contract that you will use it as a working dog in some capacity. It can be anything from agility to protection, but the dog has to do something. http://Www.bachbett.com
