Man Keeps Breeding & Abusing Dogs In Suspected Dogfighting Ring For Years

Elmer Givens, Jr. was about to be served with an arrest warrant when deputies from Tacoma, Washington, showed up at his residence.

Prosecutors formally filed 75 animal cruelty charges against Givens stemming from previous visits and removal of many dogs over the previous two years.

However, deputies found something very disturbing at the residence when they arrived.

It all started in 2019 when the Pierce County Sherriff’s Office investigated a report regarding six underweight Pit Bulls at home.

There were visible signs of scarring on the dogs, and they were severely underweight, which the sheriff’s office believed to be signs of dogfighting.

When they went back to the property a month later to serve a search warrant, another 48 dogs were found.

Many of the dogs were crammed into cages, puppies were in poor condition, and others were found outside in the driveway chained up or living outside in wire kennels.

Items related to dogfighting and dog breeding were also located in the residence. All 48 dogs were removed, Givens was arrested, and he was ordered not to have more than five dogs on his property.

Sadly, during the recent visit to Givens’ home, another 23 dogs were discovered, and one of them had to be rushed for emergency medical treatment.

Fortunately, all 23 animals were removed from the home, and Givens was formally arrested.  KOMO News reports that since 2019, a total of 107 dogs have been seized from Givens’ property.
