Drain Backs Up In Puppy Miller’s Barn, Forcing 63 Pups To Live In Feces & Waste

A good Samaritan is being credited with possibly saving the lives of at least 63 puppies from the cruel hands of a heartless puppy mill owner in Alvaton, Kentucky.

The anonymous tip came into the Warren County Sheriff’s Office regarding a suspected puppy mill operation in the area. When an animal control officer was sent to the scene, he found a deplorable situation on arrival.

Officers made contact with 73-year-old Donna Byard after finding a nightmarish barn behind her home. Inside the barn was what officers described as “feces covering the floor in their living space, feces built up in the drain the entire width of the barn, and feces on the animals.” Byard told officers she breeds dogs in the barn but the drain inside the barn had been clogged for two weeks.

Thankfully, 63 furbabies were removed from the scene in conjunction with animal control, the sheriff’s office, and the Warren County Humane Society.

All the pups were transported to the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society, but they are being examined and not available for adoption just yet. Byard was charged with 63 misdemeanor counts of second-degree cruelty to animals.

Concerning the charges, Sheriff Hightower and Tracy Moser with the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society agree that laws need to be tougher on animal abusers.

“If we had some sort of department, some sort of education, and someone who could inspect these places when there is a complaint, more so than an animal control officer, one that is always inspecting, just like the health department regulates restaurants, then we could actually prevent a lot of this stuff from happening,” Moser shared.
