That is not the only thing that dogs have in common with wolves. Both wolves and dogs belong to the canis genus. Researchers studying the DNA of dogs have discovered that most dogs share genetic markers with wolves indicating that dogs probably descended from wolves a long, long time ago.
That said, wolves require more training, a diet more rich in protein, and they thrive in a pack. For a dog, very often their human is the only pack leader they need.
