What a difference a day can make in a shelter dog’s life! Spokey was at an SPCA when Marla and her boyfriend James went to look at dogs to possibly adopt. When they saw Spokey they instantly knew they wanted her.
“We fell in love with her the minute we saw her, and returned to the SPCA every day until she was available for adoption,” Marla wrote.
They took this picture of Spokey at the shelter.
The day after adopting her, they took this photo. One day at home and Spokey was all smiles!

The SPCA didn’t have much information to share about her background, but the couple can’t wait to get to know Spokey better. Marla said, “They didn’t know much about her, besides the fact that they found her in rural West Virginia and she has had puppies in the past. She is very calm-tempered, but is both mesmerized and terrified of vehicles as they drive past her.”
On her first day home, they had some trouble getting her to eat and drink, but they had been told that this behavior, “can be normal with rescue pups.” But a few days later Spokey is settling into her new home wonderfully.
Marla told Reshareworthy.com, “Spokey is doing great! We bought her three toys, and she takes all three of them everywhere she goes. It’s like she’s in shock that she has things of her own!”

“She has also started to eat much better now that she has settled in. We mix wet food and dry food and put it in a “Kong” for her to play with and eat at the same time, which she loves.”
“Spokey is also becoming much more playful! She will run around with James and I in the back yard and is learning simple commands like ‘sit’ and ‘paw’. We are enrolling her in group doggy training starting next week,” she says. “We are so happy to have such a wonderful puppy in our lives.”
And one year on? How is Spokey now? Marla and James shared an update along with a few new photos of Spokey that reveal just how far the sweet dog has come after a year at their home.
“This is Spokey’s version of ‘spending time outdoors’. Nothing like enjoying a bright sunny day with a puffy doggy bed and all of her food and toys.”

“Spokey can’t sleep unless she is touching someone. She is the biggest snuggler I have ever met. If her paw is not touching some part of my body, she will not go to bed.”

“Spokey is happiest, silliest, most loving dog I’ve ever had, Spokey has made my life 100% better. I couldn’t be happier that she was brought into my life.”

Our daughter rescued her dog and the only information on him was that it took them months to catch him. He was checked out as completely healthy. We were concerned at first, he was very possessive of everything and would get mean. After taking him to college with her, every time we visited or they came home we saw changes. He still hates toys, still has some “isms” but after 18 months together he is amazing. He is no longer mean or possessive, he is the perfect watch dog and full of love, and snuggling is his favorite part of every day. I always love these rescue stories
