The saddest day in a dog owner’s life is the moment when their dog passes away. It is probably the worst part about sharing life with a dog; knowing that we will likely outlive our beloved furbabies.
When a little girl named Meredith was just a baby, her mom and dad got her a dog. The pooch became the child’s companion, protector, and her best friend.

As Abbey got older and greyer in the muzzle, she started slowing down. Sadly, time took its toll on the dog, and Abbey was by her faithful friend when she passed away.
Meredith was very devastated, as you can imagine. She knew Abbey was in a better place, so she decided to write a letter to a very special someone…God. In the letter she wrote:
Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in Heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to swim and play with balls. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith
She sent the letter with a photo of the dog and even used extra postage so it made its way to heaven. Meredith asked her mom if God would receive the letter, and her kind mother said yes.

One day the girl found a package wrapped in gold paper with no return address. Inside was a copy of Mr. Rogers book on pets dying along with an inscription.
