Abandoned Dog Stood Howling For Days After Owner Drove Off

She was dropped off in the parking lot of a Sam’s Club in Memphis, Tennessee. Her owner drove away and never came back.

And for days, this dog howled. “He seemed to be in really good condition.” Kimberley Slown of Arrow Dog Rescue told us. “It really looked someone just took off her collar and drove off.”

Staff at the store said she haunted the parking lots for days, crying and peering into car windows.

But this dog wasn’t alone for long. Mary Murphy, a volunteer at Arrow Dog Rescue, was leaving Sam’s Club when she came across the howling dog. But she couldn’t get close enough to slip a collar around her neck.

So Murphy started spending her days in the parking lot too. She would bring a chair. A book. Sometimes, even her own dog.

Then, after the dog had spent nine days in the parking lot, Murphy, with some help from the owner of a neighboring car lot, slipped a collar around her neck.
Gradually, Murphy earned the dog’s trust. And soon, the dog had a new name. Samantha.

Next?
A new life.

Samantha is in the care of Arrow Dog Rescue and will soon be looking for a foster home.

This girl was dumped 9 days ago at Sam's Club. Mary Murphy sat for 3 ½ days with her to gain her trust and now Crooner is safe, but needs a temp foster for about 7 days in the Memphis area. She is very scared, and skittish, and needs to be somewhere quiet with someone with a little experience with this type of dog. We will be arranging transport to bring her to Arrow Dog Rescue-Animal Rescue Revolution on Wheels. Can anyone help our sweet girl?

  1. The angry emoji isn’t angry enough.

Then again there is an upside to this story: the low-life who dropped her off, and clearly didn’t deserve her, no longer has her, and someone who appreciates her will!

  2. Poor baby. How can people be so cruel? Just drive off and leave a family member standing there lost and all alone. Would you do the same thing to You children?? Sorry you’re not convenient any more so just dump you to fend for yourself.

  3. Breaks my heart to see what this precious dog was going through at time she was in the parking lot crying for those 4 days and Not one person came to her rescue. How heartless can one be to not help her ?
I know if I saw her I would be the first to come to her rescue..
Whoever did this to her should have the book thrown at them and the key thrown out the
