The story of Cookie is a hard one to wrap your mind around. She was found as a stray along with a younger Labrador, but their family only claimed the Lab. The Cocker Spaniel was left behind, abandoned and confused. But thanks to OC Small Paws So UT, Cookie gets a second chance at life.
This senior Cocker Spaniel was found along with a young Labrador and taken to a shelter in California. They were able to contact the dogs’ family, but this is where the story takes a sad turn…
The family claimed the young Labrador but left Cookie behind. She had to watch her family walk away in abandonment.
Lynn Hamilton of OC Small Paws So UT heard Cookie’s story and wasn’t about to let her spend one more day alone. Cookie was immediately set up with a foster family.
Cookie was fortunate to be in a loving home, but the hardships were far from over. A veterinarian found 12 cancerous tumors and was able to remove most of them. She will have to undergo a second procedure to remove the remaining tumors.
“We have made the collective decision to not adopt her out,” they announced on Facebook. “She will stay under the care of the rescue for the rest of her life. She also will be under the care of our vet who has already done her first surgery.”
I think they made a wonderful decision to keep Cookie and not adopt her out. She will now spend the rest of her life under the care of amazing, loving people. It’s unfortunate that her original family gave up on her, but it’s comforting to know where she is now. 🙂

How could a family break a poor dog’s heart like that? I hope she will get better and enjoy her life with people that love her.

Yep, I agree they did this dog a favor, why would any animal want to be with people who don’t deserve the love and affection of a beautiful senior dog. Just do yourselves a favor, the next time you think you want another animal, stop yourself because you’re not qualified to have an animal, better to realize your shortcomings. And, you should never have been allowed to have any animal, not sure this facility deserves to be open at all.

I hate when people do this they are with you for life of course there are some understandable things that can’t be helped like when out of nowhere my dad needed someone to take his dog in when he had brain surgery. But there was no excuse for this family leaving this dog behind. I had a foster dog that was a senior his family had kids and he didn’t like the kids. But they also kept the poor guy shut in a laundry room all his life. He bit the mail man and the kids. But he was a small dog and deserved a loving family. He found a home where the couple saw the dogs as their kids.

The way I see stories like this is it is their loss, they have lost the chance with a great dog.

Thank you for giving this sweet cocker a home. Her former owners are pathetic losers to do this. Hope someone puts them in a home, unwanted when they’re old.

I hate when people do that…I’d do anything for my sweet fur babies. I’m one of those people who can’t go to the pound…I always end up leaving with a dog who’s on their last day.
