You know that look when you've just woken up from the longest nap ever? That’s Toast—all the time.
Rescued along with 15 other kittens in Memphis, Tennessee, little Toast was in rough shape when she first arrived at her foster home through Angels Among Us Animal Rescue.
She was the tiniest of the bunch, barely able to walk, and her eyes were almost completely crusted shut.
“She was about half the size of the others and could barely move around,” said Hannah Taff, Toast’s foster mom. “She looked so fragile.”
But then, as she started to heal… something unexpected happened.
While the other kittens grew into your typical, sleek and fluffy babies, Toast took a very different route—her fur exploded into total chaos.
Every day, she looked like she’d just woken up from a 10-year nap, stumbled out of bed, and skipped the brushing altogether.
And no matter how much grooming she gets? Still a little disaster.
“She gets bathed and brushed daily,” Taff said. “People keep saying, ‘Oh, she probably just needs a bath to look normal.’ Nope. She’s just built different.”
Toast’s forever-bedhead has become her signature look, and while her appearance might make people do a double take, her personality seals the deal.
“They always say, ‘She’s so ugly she’s cute,’ which honestly is spot on,” Taff laughed. “But then they meet her and totally fall in love. She’s got this big, bold personality that just wins everyone over.”
She may have a few lingering eye issues that her foster mom is monitoring, and she’s still figuring out how to use the litter box without creating… chaos. But none of that slows her down.
Toast is a tiny tornado of energy—equal parts dramatic yeller, wild parkour enthusiast, and lovable weirdo. She might look like she just rolled out of a cardboard box, but really, she’s just living her best life.
