A little girl from Sumter, South Carolina had her heart broken when someone stole her beloved dog, Diesel, from her family’s property.
For more than a year, the family searched for the dog but always came up emptyhanded.
As time passed, about a year after Diesel was stolen, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a neglected dog in someone’s yard.

Cpl. Kristen Gregory knew right away the dog was neglected and would not be allowed to stay in the person’s possession.
After taking the dog away, Animal Control and Captain Misty Lee tried to contact whom they believed to be the dog’s owner.
Despite phone calls, letters, posts to the house, and visits, no one replied. Eventually, someone recognized the dog as possibly being Diesel.

Tiffaney Cappel, Diesel’s original owner, was called to the animal shelter to see if the dog found was indeed Diesel. When the animal was released from the kennel, he ran right into Capell’s waiting arms.
“The sequence of events that had to align for this dog to find its owner was astounding,” Captain Lee stated.
