It was a truly unforgettable night at the movies this weekend when over 200 dogs gathered for a very special film screening — and ended up breaking a world record.
On Sunday, Paramount Pictures, Best Friends Animal Society and Street Food Cinema held a movie screening at the Autry Museum in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, and invited families with dogs to attend with their pets.
The screened film, fittingly, was PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, based on the hit children’s show about a team of search and rescue dogs. The new movie is set to be released in theaters this Friday.
The screening had an incredible turnout: 219 dogs of all shapes and sizes came out to watch the movie. The dogs seem to have had an incredible time: many dressed up in costumes and even walked the red carpet, taking photos with the PAW Patrol gang.
The most remarkable part is that the event actually set the Guinness World Record for “Most Dogs Attending a Film Screening”! The 219 dogs in attendance topped the 199 dogs who set the previous record in October 2022.
Michael Empric, an official adjudicator for Guinness, was on hand to make the record official and present a certificate.
“I was so excited to adjudicate this Guinness World Records attempt for most dogs attending a film screening,” Empric said, according to Paramount Pictures International.
“It’s not every day I get to enjoy an ‘Officially Amazing’ time at the movies with hundreds of furry friends,” he added, congratulating the studio on the “paw-some” record title.
The record will no doubt bring much publicity to the new movie. But Best Friends Animal Society, who helped sponsor the event, hopes that the news inspires people to consider adopting a pet.
“I hope people reading about this milestone will be inspired to get out and adopt,” said Brittany Thorn, Executive Director of Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles.
