20 Things All Labrador Owners Must Never Forget

One of the best dogs for children of all ages, Labrador Retrievers are kindly, good-natured, and take most things in stride.

Most Labrador Retrievers are very friendly with everyone, though compared to Golden Retrievers, many Labs are just a bit more conservative with their affections.

  1. I lost my gorgeous girl last year when she was only 9. It was a short time before she went that my youngest daughter said ‘mum I wish Poppy could stay with us forever’ I relied saying ‘don’t worry she has plenty years in her yet’ How wrong I was because we only got another two weeks with her, we didn’t know she was ill until 2 days before we had to let her go. I thought she had a simple eye infection (conjunctivitis) but it turned out to be much worse and she had a huge bleed at the vet when they were investigating the problem. They advised us that she had something nasty attached to behind her eye, roof of mouth and salivary glands. We brought her home overnight but had to take her back to let her go, absolutely worst day of my life, I was so not ready to let her go but had to do it for her sake.

My kids were beside themselves when they came home from school to learn she had gone even though I tried to prepare them. Poppy is now in our garden where she will always be close to us. I miss her everyday, she was amazing with my kids and I will always remember the day we brought her home when my youngest was 12 months old, best decision we ever made for our family.

  2. That is so young Chris. And only recently. My Labrador Zoe went to the rainbow bridge on the 31th DEC just gone. I had her for 12 years. I couldn’t imagine loosing my baby at just 4 years. Absolutely heartbreaking
