20 Things All German Shepherd Owners Must Never Forget

With handsome good looks, the German Shepherd was an original canine movie star before the breed became popular police and military dogs.

One of the most capable and trainable breeds in all of dogdom, exceedingly eager to learn and work, a German Shepherd, when well-trained by a confident owner, is a magnificent companion.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, German Shepherds are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all German Shepherd owners must never forget.

If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome German Shepherd owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

  1. taking care of my gsd comes naturally I raised her and she knows that I being the alpha in our pack she knows she is part of our family and will be protected trained and kept busy. She has been with me almost everyday. My job as a field project manager allowed me to take her with me
We have built structures in some of the most violent areas in Chicago and she watched over me,,not knowing what she was doing,,,or did she know????

  2. I was lucky enough to have my German Shepherd for 13 1/2 years, and sat on the floor right next to him patting him and reminding him how much we all loved him.I was amazed by my others animals and how they rallied around him during his final moments. The last things he heard was how much we all loved him…loved him enough to let him go.It’s been many years and I still miss my Butch 🙁 Sadly to buy a dog these days is ridiculously expensive…making it very hard to even think about buying one for a lot of people.

  3. My German Shepherd will be 14 next month. She has never been ill until a few months ago when she had a mid-ear infection, which cleared up fine but left her almost deaf. But she is happy and enjoys her old age, eats well, if less and just loves me and everybody I care for. I am dreading the time when she’ll leave me for good……..

  4. All excellent and very true points. I had my Kelly nearly 15 years. She was my baby, my best friend and I still miss her. I have had Sassy, my Golden, for ten yrs and love her just as much. All our babies deserve the very best we can give them. They weren’t given to us to just tie outside or run loose and fend for themselves. I don’t understand people who don’t get that.
