20 Things All Dachshund Owners Must Never Forget

Curious, lively, charming, and brave, Dachshunds are similar to terriers in their demands to be in on everything.

The comical clowns love to play games and have a great sense of humor. They are loyal little dogs, very attached to their family, and they firmly believe that sleeping under the bedcovers is in the Dachshund Bill of Rights.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Dachshunds are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Doxie owners must never forget.

If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Wiener dog owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

  1. Thank you for sharing. My Lil gal became sick. I took her to the vet and in the car ride I was touching her and telling her it would be okay, we’ll be there in just a few minutes. I was at a stop light and saw her front paws move, she took a deep breath and was gone.

  2. The dachshund on the right was my baby girl, Penny. We had to send her over the rainbow bridge in October, after they discovered a large mass in her abdomen. She was only 11, and my husband and I still miss her terribly. She brought such joy to us, and our entire family. We tried so hard to save her. She left her brother ( my sister’s boy Crosby, on the left ) behind and he is missing her, too.The best pups, ever. Unconditional love, and I’m not sure we can ever re[lace her.

  3. You are blessed Clare. I could not bring myself to get a new dachshund. My brother’s dog visits us. Barkie is an American Bull dog who loves to be fed tidbits. I find that this dog needs love and positive affirmation. Barkie is a happy dog as long as we show him the love. He has soulful eyes, too. I love Barkie, too but miss the doxies.

  4. So sorry you lost Penny. I don’t think you will ever replace Penny. In time Crosby might like a Doxie friend. They are hard to resist when they come into your life. Bless Penny and Crosby. Thank you for sharing your story. ❤️❤️❤️

  5. I just lost my baby yesterday, the best dog ever! We had over 13 years together. My heart is truly broke. But he brought me so much joy in my life. And licked many a tear. And OMG #20 looks just like my “Fatboy”! No he wasn’t fat, named after a Harley 🙂

  6. Dachshunds are the best – thanks for sharing! Dogs in general are such amazing animals. Each breed has their own special features but they all have one thing in common – unfailing loyalty to their owners. <3

  7. #19 and #20 brought me to tears, too. We have not had a dog that we have not been with when the vet says it’s time for the suffering to stop. <3 all the pix that went along with the post.
