The Cocker Spaniel is primarily a beloved companion dog breed, though he remains a capable bird dog at heart.

Beautiful to look at (and labor-intensive to groom), the Cocker’s amenable, cheerful disposition also makes him a treat to have in the family.

Never more pleased than when he’s pleasing you, he’s as happy to snuggle on the couch with his favorite adults as to romp in the yard with the kids.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Cocker Spaniels are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Cocker Spaniel owners must never forget.

    sorrry for your loss its heartbreaking try to recue another one soon rescue is the only way to go check our norcal cocker rescue sacramento ca they have real nice cockers up for adoption if you do not want to rescue

    My Shelley had total ear ablations in both ears due to her condition when she was rescued, so it was instant hearing loss for her. She adapted so well and so quickly that sometimes I forgot she couldn’t hear. That girl knew the treats were coming from a mile away! Miss her so much! Please trust that your baby will adapt. You will find ways to help him adjust, like Mona Canary did for her baby.

    I’ve lost 2 Cockers and were with them up until their last minutes in my arms. I can’t bear to spread their ashes and when I run across them deep in my closet, I still cry even though it’s been more than 10 years. I think I always will.

    My boy Abe lost his hearing around the same time. I still spoke to him like he could hear me. He was still a very happy boy and he live another 4 years. His sight was perfect until the end. I miss him so much.

    So a lot of these things also apply to other breeds. I had a cocker from dec 1997 to may 2014. I bought her for Christmas for my then son Matt 13 yrs old. She was the light of both our lives, we lover her so much. We all played, loved, cuddled together. She loved giving kisses. She was sweet and smart. On the last day of her life, we took her to the vet. Matt was 30 yrs old. They had grown together. The vet announced that she was dying. I looked at Matt who looked awful. Then he asked if she was in pain. The vet said yes and Matt, the now man, said please help her not to hurt anymore. So he did, Matt then kissed her and said. My final gift to you for the hundreds of hours of joy you gave me.

    We still miss our Tiger every day. She lost her hearing at about 8. Sight went 11. By 17 no teeth. Thin and frail. We loved her so much. Alicia I feel for you. Losing your beloved pet is brutal.

    Mona your puppy is very pretty. My Tiger to was deaf and blind. I wouldn’t trade 1 minute of my Tiger life with us. When she was under a year old I took out a pound of bacon, put in on the counter, went to talk on the phone for a few minutes, came back bacon gone. I looked all over the counter, rechecked the fridge, asked Matt if he did something with it. I thought I was losing my mind. A few min later Tiger comes in the kitchen and there is grease just dripping from her jowls. The packaging was on the floor under the dining table. I thought she would die. A lb of raw bacon. She was fine though. She loved to eat books. Got special pleasure out of school library books. One time I baked 2 dz chocolate cupcakes. She enjoyed them all.

    She was out girl and we loved her to death. We blamed everything she did wrong on ourselves. After all, the counter is no place to leave bacon and cupcakes. I may as well fed them to her. Right. Library books on the desk in his room, really. Who keeps library books on a desk!!!.

    Diane Corbin , the one I have now is this color . She is 8 yrs old . She has the yeast on her body and her ears bad . My last one was chocolate his name was Hershey . He got the cataracts and was going blind . We was getting ready to go to Ohio state and have her eyes fixed and she got Cancer . This is my 3rd one . My 1st and 2nd one was each 13 when we had to put them down . Hopefully this one I have now will live that long .

    Diane Corbin….my goodnees she looks exactly like the one I had before I got these two brothers. He had ear ablations in both ears so he was deaf as well. I guess we are those mom’s sent the special angels. The brother of the one I just lost was diagnosed with cancer last year but I put him on herbs and here a yr has gone by and nothing new to report.
