Boxers are silly, sweet and mischievous. They clown around with family and friends, are patient and playful with children, but show a deliberate and wary face to strangers, responding with unmatched courage to anything that threatens their loved ones. Those characteristics are why people love them.
It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Boxers are no exception!
But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Boxer owners must never forget.
If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Boxer owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…
Check out the 20 Things All Boxer Owners Must Never Forget on the next page:

My Rosie went because of pancreatitis caused by Cushings, but 12 years isn’t bad for a Boxer. She was a sick old lady then, but at least I didn’t have to make that decision. My latest loss was my 8 year old Vizsla Bella to a neurological event. That one hit me particularly hard. I wasn’t ready for it. Fortunately Ginger and Jasper are helping me get through it.

Letting Hemi go was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I buried him right on the other side of the wall where he used to always sleep. He literally still sleeps beside me every night. We bought him new solar lights and a new white fence to go around his grave just this past weekend. He has a head stone and all. He was more than a dog. He was my family. He was my son in my mind. Everyone that knows me knew that dog. He went with me everywhere. I even took him places he wasn’t supposed to do. Managers would come to tell me to leave and take him outside and they would just fall in love. They’d end up petting and telling me how handsome he was and forget to even tell me to leave. Everyone just got used to seeing him. I’ve suffered a great deal not having him as my kid and best friend. He made each and every day worth living. I will always love him. I am so sorry about your Zoe and I hope you find peace.

Brian Miller oh my god, I just saw this now… I am bawling!!! So sorry for your loss! Thanks though for writing that!! I am at a loss of what to do!! Nikoa can still walk okay… Her left leg is way worse than the other! She still runs but loses control of her legs sometimes! Sometimes she turns too fast and she falls down!! My husband and I go on “poop control” to make sure she doesn’t fall down it it…. If she gets her left leg too far forward she has problems keeping her balance!! This is so hard to take in & watch! I was always scared of cancer getting her but now this horrible disease got her… The hardest thing is knowing their mind is still so sane and full of life but their body is deteriorating… Nikoa turned 10 in February!! I pray I have a few years left with her!! I dread that day as you did!!! Thanks again & sorry!!! Boxers are easily the best dogs ever!!!

That they are, EACH and every one of them……and Cole Warner, you are correct sir, they DO become part of the family and i think it’s a combination of their love, intelligence and INDIVIDUALISTIC personality that create that unbreakable bond.

Zoe’ used to sit like that all the time in the last stages of the CDM that ultimately took her and Holly Noggle Koelbl has it totally right, it’s like MD, MS, Parkinson’s (think my vet told me it was essentially the canine version of ALS, aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease). The body loses ground slowly (in some cases years) while their minds remain sharp and intact……a terrible way for a person to end up, but TRY explaining it to what YOU know to be an intelligent creature, but there are NO WAYS to convey what you want to them……I can remember seeing Zoe’ look up at me, after she’d fall in her poo or when she pee’d her bed…..she’d look up at me with those BIG beautiful brown eyes as if to say ” PLEASE don’t be mad daddy, I KNOW i did wrong, i just don’t know why, I’m still your good girl!”…….
DAMN it’s almost been a YEAR and this still has tears running down my face!!!!!
