Beagles are conveniently-sized, handsome and easy-to-groom, friendly with people, peaceful with other pets, and with their appealing soulful expression, it's perfectly natural that many people consider them as potentially wonderful pets.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Beagles are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Beagle owners must never forget.

    It’s been hard going on without my little girl. The alternative would have been that she would have to go on without me. But, two years later, I think about her every day. She was my child.

    I certainly understand. We waited 15 years to have a dog–when spouse retired from the military, we got a 7 week old Beagle named Chancey. Since all our kids had “flown the nest” Chancey was our child & was treated like a human baby. She died of congestive heart failure at 12–the grief was almost unbearable. She has a grave in our yard with a marble engraved stone & full of flowers. That was 10 years ago & I still “talk with tears ” to her when I tend her grave. We got another beagle shortly after her death–a 7wk old named Brandi who is now 10 & is just as spoiled as her sister was. We are now at the age where another puppy could outlive us so after Brandi goes over the bridge, there won’t be another furbaby to love. I imagine that will be most difficult. Sorry I have written a book but when it comes to my beagles, I could go on & on.

    Don’t stop after she goes…So many senior dogs need a home! Life without a dog is so empty. The gift of a forever home to a senior dog is priceless. It’s still hard when they go, but at least they had some time in a loving home before they cross over.

    I understand your pain Lee. I agree with you Arthur. Right now, there is a living dog that needs love. When my little girl got old, our bond became more special. It’s hard to say but I’m sure others can relate. Senior dogs need lots of tenderness and when your life revolves around one, it can be really wonderful.
