Cocker Spaniels are dogs belonging to two breeds of the spaniel dog type: the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel, both of which are commonly called simply Cocker Spaniel in their countries of origin.

The American Cocker Spaniel is a breed of sporting dog. It is a spaniel type dog that is closely related to the English Cocker Spaniel; the two breeds diverged during the 20th century due to differing breed standards in America and the UK. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an American Cocker Spaniel are: Outgoing, Even Tempered, Merry, Joyful, Trusting, Sociable.

The English Cocker Spaniel is a breed of gun dog. The English Cocker Spaniel is an active, good-natured, sporting dog standing well up at the withers and compactly built. There are “field” or “working” cockers and “show” cockers. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an English Cocker Spaniel are: Playful, Faithful, Friendly, Quiet, Affectionate, Trainable.

    We have rescued three cockers over the years. Two have passed away. Now we have Shakespeare who was surrendered to a shelter. Needed a forever home and he found it with us. He is quite smart. Doesn’t forget a thing. Kathy

    Our three keep us all very occupied , 1 English cocker and 2 American cockers ! The English is the most crazy and oldest but he still acts like a puppy (that’s an understatement actually)
