12 Realities New English Bulldog Owners Must Accept

What do England, the U.S. Marines, Yale University, University of Georgia, and dozens of other schools all have in common?

The dog they have all chosen to represent their tough, tenacious characters. That dog? Why, it's the Bulldog, of course!

cute-english-bulldogs.jpgSometimes called the English Bulldog or the British Bulldog, the breed originated in England and has a bloody past.

It descended from fighting mastiffs that were brought to the British Isles by the Romans and was used in a bloody sport called bullbaiting.

Today, however, the Bulldog only slightly resembles his ancestors in appearance. And all of the ferociousness that he exhibited in the bullbaiting pens? Gone for good.

Despite his still ferocious appearance, you'd be hard-pressed to find a dog with a sweeter, more loving disposition. They are friendly, social, calm, balanced, compassionate, stubborn, proud and persevering.

If you are considering to own an English Bulldog, or you’ve just become a new English Bulldog owner, there are some realities you do need to fully accept.

  1. Rescuing is always a great option as well. That is how we got our bully. They are a lot of work. So many people get them and are not prepared for what they need. Sadly they then get mistreated and poorly taken care of and end up in shelters or rescues and worse…

  2. I have a year old and he is very naughty , this is my first bull dog , could anyone help please he jumps up everyone and every thing , he still messes in the house he has regular walks and is let out last thing at night but when I get up in the morning he has messed help please zzz

  3. I think they are just trying to warn potential new BD owners. They do cost a lot of money and many do have health issues (like ours). Most people don’t have that kind of money to spend on vet bills and that’s not good for the doc.

  4. We love r Bully have not spent thousands on him but would not take anything for him and when he needs to go to the vet we take him. And thank God we have a Vet that will work with us.

  5. Our Bully turned 7 Sat. 26 we had some skin issues and eye problem that was fixed but that has been it Thank God. If you take of them you won’t have ALL THESE ISSUES MAYBE. And we pd $1500.00 for him came from a good breeder and he has papers. Just sayin and we will have another one.
