A well-bred Cocker Spaniel is a pleasure to own. He is known for a merry, sound temperament.

montyHis flowing coat is silky, flat or wavy, has a sturdy, compact body, and is loving and gentle, and he wants nothing more than to make his family happy.

Compared to other dogs in the Sporting Group, the Cocker is small (20 to 30 pounds), fitting comfortably into an apartment, condo, or a small home.

He is primarily a companion but is easily trained for the conformation show ring, obedience and agility competitions, and field work. He is also an excellent therapy dog.

  1. I had 2 beautiful cockers that I lost 2 yrs. ago and they had some of these qualities. I still miss them terribly now I have 2 more and they have all these qualities. They are just as lovable as my first 2. I would not trade them for any thing. Cockers are the best.

  2. Totally agree with all of these. Have had 3 Cockers in my life – my childhood dog, Buffy, and currently my 2 senior (11 year old) black-and-white Cockers, Layla and Luke. The only things this list is missing are: Grooming them often more than you do yourself – weekly brushing and ear cleaning and haircuts every 6 weeks. Also often dealing with “attitude” – my dogs can be stubborn and usually prefer being just with people and not with other dogs.

  3. Everything it says about cocker spaniels is true. It made me giggle. I will always be a cocker owner. The love they have for you is like none I’ve ever seen. He has stolen my heart;)
