12 Realities New Chihuahua Owners Must Learn To Accept

Chihuahuas are comical, entertaining, and loyal little dogs, absolutely brimming with personality – often a quirky and eccentric personality unmatched by any other breed.

Other than that generalization, Chihuahuas are extremely variable. You can find individuals who are lively or placid. Bold or timid. Feisty or mellow. Confident or nervous. Stubborn or eager to please.

Chihuahuas do not have a particularly good reputation among the general public. Ask a few people, “Do you think Chihuahuas are nice little dogs?” and see how many of them exclaim, “No! They're nasty little things who bite!”

How a Chihuahua turns out depends mightily on the genetic temperament of his parents and grandparents. In other words, entire lines of Chihuahuas are social or antisocial.

If you are considering to own a Chihuahua, or you’ve just become a new Chihuahua owner, there are some realities you do need to fully accept.

  1. Please put your dog in a safe pet carrier/kennel for travel in the car. Do not have him/her on your lap while driving. The pressure of the airbag deploying is enough to kill or seriously harm your precious baby. It’s not worth it. Better be safe than sorry. Just like we have to strap down a human baby in the backseat, the same should be done with our furry family members.
