Little Boy’s Touching Gesture Of Wanting The Oldest Dog Didn’t Go Unnoticed By Staffers

Shey the 14-year-old miniature Poodle was dropped off at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa where he waited four months for someone to adopt him. His family had moved away and decided to not take their dog along.

Suffering from dental disease and having never been neutered, the dog was scheduled for surgery and vet care. Shey only had the one tooth that wasn’t fully rotted and was deaf and half-blind. Needless to say, he wasn’t the top choice for most adopters.

But to a young boy named Tristan, none of that stuff mattered. He showed up to the shelter with his Mom looking for a small dog who loves to cuddle. The staff suggested Shey figuring they’d be the perfect match.

Tristan took a seat and waited to meet the dog. When staffers placed Shey onto his lap, the boy couldn’t stop smiling. They bonded instantly! As they went over all of Shey’s special needs, it didn’t faze the boy at all. Tristan was willing to do everything necessary for the sweet senior dog.

The little boy pulled out the calendar on his phone and saved dates for when he’d have to bring Shey to the vet and carefully listened to all of their instructions. Tristan was so excited to tell the staff about the special spot in his room he set up for his new dog. 🙂

Tristan asked lots of questions and showed the utmost interest and dedication to his new pet. Seeing how mature the boy was for his age, it was a no-brainer for the staff to pair them up! The fact that he wanted to adopt a senior dog didn’t hurt, either.

Shey is now home with his new family, and they couldn’t be happier! Tristan is doing everything he can to make up for lost time for a dog who was abandoned and left waiting months for a new friend.

Tristan and Shey are perfect for each other, and we’re so glad they found one another!
