She Tucked Herself Near Woman’s Porch Hoping For A Meal, She Met Them Instead

A homeless animal has many stories to tell. Because a dog can’t speak as we do, we can only go off of what we see.

For one Pit Bull, her story was obvious. It was a long tale based on pain and abandonment but her story was far from over.

Lakita was found on a pile of trash near a woman’s porch. She smelled horrible. The woman that found her thought she was so close to death that the rescuers had little time to get there. So they, of course, rushed over.

The dog was skinny and withdrawn. She looked defeated. Was anyone ever kind to her? As one of the rescuers named Tracy says in the video, “Oh, she smells like she’s rotting from the inside out,” our hearts just ache. How did anyone let this precious creature get this bad?

But then, Lakita stood up. She seemed to understand that Tracy and her team were there to help her. There now was a spark that motivated the sullen dog. She understood that she mattered and that may have been the first time she ever felt that way.

The next step was to bring her in for medical evaluation at animal control and to report that the rescuers found her in case someone was looking for her.

That, of course, didn’t pan out. Tracy brought Lakita home with her and in just a week, you could already see a huge transformation.

With frequent small meals daily, Lakita was able to gain weight quickly. And her fur shined! The best part of all was that Lakita wanted to play! She felt secure and happy. What a gift!

Now that Lakita was healthy, she needed her forever home. Volunteers took adorable Christmas photos of her all dressed up and posted them online. Her future parents, Sebastian and Ashtyn, saw Lakita in an adorable tutu and couldn’t resist.

Lakita was placed in the perfect forever home! A wonderful home, with three little humans who can’t get enough of her. The kids are her best friends and she spends every minute she can with them. She protects them too.

We read many stories like this one and that’s because Pit Bulls and Pit mixes are more likely to end up in shelters than any other breed. They are, by far, the first to be euthanized in kill shelters.

Even with education and word of mouth, people still believe that all Pits are dangerous. That they’re a hazard to children. That they don’t deserve loving homes.

Pit Bulls aren’t bad dogs! Many are just a product of bad owners. Even cities that have a ban on Pit Bulls are realizing this, and are working to change legislation.

We need to do our part as well. Please share stories like this one. Lakita got her happily ever after. ALL dogs deserve that too.
