House Burns To Ground With Baby Inside – Then Mom Sees Pit Bull Dragging Child Out By Her Diaper

If it wasn’t for an 8-month-old pit bull’s watchful eye, a family with a 7-month-old baby might have succumbed to a massive fire in their East Yorkshire Drive neighborhood in Stockton.

It was early in the morning on Sunday when Nana Chaichanhda woke from her slumber.

She could hear incessant banging and barking at her back door. So, she got out of her bed and went to the door. When she opened it she found her pit bull Sasha standing there.

“I open it and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy and I was like, ‘OK, this is weird. This is not like her,'” Chaichanhda told Fox 40.

She looked outside the door to see her cousin’s building completely engulfing in the flames. The fire was ravaging the local buildings and spreading toward Chaichanhda’s home.

“If she wasn’t barking at the door like that I probably wouldn’t have known nothing” Chaichanhda said.

Chaichanhda ran to Baby Masailah’s room but by that time Sasha was already in hero mode trying to save the child.

“As soon as I run in the door she starts barking, I ran into the room and she has Sasha by the diaper dragging her off the bed trying to get her to safety,” Chaichanhda told KCRA News.

Fire crew responded shortly after that to the fourplex. The fire spread to Chaichanhda’s attic and had rendered her home uninhabitable. The Stockton Fire Department was searching for the cause of the fire.

Electricity had also been knocked out of the two buildings that weren’t affected by the fire and the inhabitants were trying to get that restored.

Thankfully Chaichanhda’s cousin was not home at the time of the fire. She and her cousin are now staying with their aunts who also live in the fourplex. While they are trying to rebuild their lives and their homes. Chaichanhda she is grateful for her pit bull puppy.

“It meant a lot. I owe her everything. If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn,” Chaichanhda said.

She said it was one of the rare nights that she left Sasha outside which ended up being the reason she and her daughter are alive. Chaichanhda said that she also hopes that her story will help change people’s views of pit bulls as family pets.

“Pits are not bad, it’s the owner and how they are trained. I am a dog lover and I love pits. They are smart, protective, and playful. Thanks Sasha for letting the world know not all bullies are bad,” wrote one person in the comments on YouTube.

“Oh good dog this is what happens when you treat your dog like family,” said another.

She says that Sasha has always been the perfect family dog and is gentle with her young daughter. Sasha and Masailah grew up together and love cuddling together in bed at night.

They even sometimes will take baths together. Chaichanhda said that Sasha is getting a little bit more spoiled than she used to now that she’s a hero.

“She’s always been a part of the family, but now she gets steaks,” Chaichanhda said.
