It became a matter of life-threatening emergency as torrential rains inundated most parts of Harris County, Texas.
While thousands of displaced people were rescued, it was the plight of the many horses stranded in the floods that left the locals heartbroken.
As people helplessly watched their horses getting washed away, a former marine named Justin Nelzen stepped in to rescue the poor creatures.

Justin, who works as a horse trainer, strapped on a red lifejacket and dived in to get the horses out of the turbulent water.
The brilliant swimmer made several to and fro trips through the distressing floods to guide the horses out to dry land one by one.
He even risked his life as he threw himself off a bridge to get to a horse who was desperately trying to paddle and stay afloat.

The community was moved by Justin’s selfless rescue efforts, and they banded together to assist Justin in getting the horses to safety.
They began pointing out every drowning horse and cheered him on as he kept venturing into the raging waters to save them.
By the end of the day, Justin had rescued 15 horses on his own and about 10 others with the help of the locals!

While the locals have hailed Justin as the hero of the horses, the humble man isn’t comfortable with the title.
He is distressed about the horses he didn’t save – the ones that just disappeared into the fast-moving current.
The man considers horses to be his family, and watching some of them tragically die in the floods has left him gutted.

Sadly, Dobermans are known more for their ferocity than their smarts, but these are considered among the most intelligent dogs in the world, as well as one of the most effective guard dogs around. They’re outstanding students known to be affectionate and obedient.

Don’t let the wrinkles and dopey expression fool you! Bloodhounds have the keenest of noses, and are often used for trailing (so much so that their evidence can be used in court against you!). These are loving but strong-willed dogs, and are often used on search and rescue missions.

You need a smart, determined and energetic dog to control unruly cows. And that’s just what the Australian Cattle Dog, or ACD, does. They’re intelligent enough to herd these much larger creatures, and while they need their independence and wide open spaces, they’re eager workers who know how to get the job done.
