A stray canine mother risks life to reunite with her puppies

A rescued border collie-mix was nothing but skin and bones when the family coaxed her into their car. Taking her home, she ate and slept, but on the third day grew restless. Something was not right.

Nikki Jo Watkins shared the story of the dog she named “Gypsy” with ABC 23 and how she escaped to find the seven puppies she had hidden in a dirt hole and carefully covered with tumbleweeds.

The family took the puppies, who are estimated to be about three-weeks old, and will soon be looking for homes when they are old enough to be adopted.
