Deaf Hiker Falls 700 Feet Down Mountain, But When Rescuers Finally Find Her, She Isn’t Alone

21-year-old Amelia Milling is a pro at hiking.  However, when she started out on a hike in Crow Pass Trail in Chugach State Park, Alaska one day, she had no idea what experience was in store for her.

4 miles into her hike one of her trekking poles suddenly snapped and she lost her balance. Amelia fell 300-feet down the side of the snowy mountain, hitting a large boulder on the way down.

Amelia had survived, miraculously. Only injuring her leg in the fall. As she inspected her injuries, she noticed a white figure emerging in the distance. The experienced hiker began  to panic, she saw a white wolf approaching her.

As the wolf drew closer, she realized what it really was. It was a dog, a beautiful white husky with a collar around its neck!

Expecting to see an owner following, she waited.  Unfortunately nobody was following!  That is when she realized the dog was there to help her.

The huskey’s collar, was engraved with a name, the name was ‘Nanook’ and she began to set to work getting back to safety with Nanook by her side. The pair started back on the hiking trail and eventually set up camp for the night.

What Amelia didn’t know was that Nanook is a trained trail dog, specifically trained to help lost hikers get back home.

Amelia would eventually learn that Nanook is a trail-dog, specifically trained to help lost hikers find their way back home.

The next day, the pair continued on the trial and came upon a river. They would have to cross…

Amelia took a step into the water and the strong current pulled her down and dragged her under. This wasn’t good!

Nanook immediately grabbed a hold of her backpack, pulling her out of the water to safety. Amelia knew that she was in trouble and knew it was time to use her SPOT beacon (a GPS device that alerts rescuers of her location).

Rescuers flew her home, but she claims that Nanook is her real hero. If it weren’t for him keeping her company and giving her hope, not to mention saving her from drowning, then she may not have made it home at all.

The beautiful rescue story was told here on the video!  Let us know your thoughts on these highly trained dogs.  God knew what he was doing when he put them on this earth!
