Dead Sea Turtle Strangled By Beach Chair Is A Grim Reminder For All Humans

The planet is in peril, and unless humans start to care about the world at large, things are going to get much worse. A devastating reminder on a beach in Fort Morgan, Alabama is causing a stir– maybe this story is the wakeup call we’ve all needed.

In an update posted to their Facebook page, the Fort Morgan Share the Beach had this to say: This is why we ask people to “Leave Only Footprints”, “Leave No Trace”, pick up after themselves when they leave the beach.

The accompanying photos showed a dead Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle strangled in a beach chair. The heavy string of the chair was wrapped tightly around the turtle’s neck. He suffered greatly trying to escape the chair.

His neck was bruised and bloody and the turtle lost his fight to survive.

Considered the smallest sea turtle by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), they lay eggs during the day and are considered endangered.

Matt Ware, a PhD candidate in Biological Oceanography at Florida State University shared to Facebook, “This makes me so mad. How many hundreds of times do we have to ask people to pick their stuff up? It should just be common decency.”
