Senior Pup Shot In Head Lays Down On Woman’s Porch Like She’s Home

Lauren Kohli lives next to the Ohio state line in Preble County and says Richmond, Virginia is basically in her back yard. A trail cam in the area caught sight of a dog roaming all alone.

A few days later that same trail cam captured images of the dog laying on Kohli’s porch as if she were waiting for her loved ones to return.

“It was kind of a shock to see a dog just laying there like she lived there,” Kohli shared.

The woman had no idea to whom this dog belonged or whether she was dumped there. As she tried to investigate, Lauren allowed the pup, whom she named Betty, inside with her.

Like most people do these days, Lauren took to social media and shared the dog’s photos and information she had at the time.

One of the posts found its way to a lost pets group in Butler County, Ohio. The adoption coordinator of Adoption First Animal Rescue, Tracy Kim, connected with Lauren to help Betty.

The first stop for Betty was a vet visit to examine the hole in her head. X-rays confirmed she had been shot in the head.

“The theory we’re kind of going with is what the vet thought of which is that Betty’s family didn’t want her anymore, took her out to the woods and tried to do an at-home euthanasia,” Kim shared.

Luckily, the bullet didn’t penetrate her brain. She had an infection around the wound but the bullet will be left in place. Though her prognosis is unclear, she will be kept comfortable for as many weeks, months, or years she has left.
