Alpaca Survives Difficult Birth That Killed Mom, Learns To Live Without Hind Legs

Marie the Alpaca may be young, but she has already endured so much in her short life. She miraculously survived a very difficult birth that sadly resulted in both her mother and sister dying.

On top of that, she was also born with both of her back legs so severely damaged that one of them had to be amputated.

But Marie has quickly proven that the loss of her hind legs won’t slow her down, and 20-year-old Ronja Pohl is by her side to help her through it all.

Pohl could see the tenacity and fight in Marie’s eyes, and knew she had to help her. She contacted a company that makes wheelchairs for disabled animals and had Marie fit for a custom wheelchair.

Now nothing slows her down! Marie may look different from other Alpacas, but with help from her wheelchair, she gets around just like the rest of them.

She is now enjoying her life on a farm in Germany, and doesn’t even know that she’s any different. Eventually, Pohl plans to have Marie fitted for a prosthetic leg, but in the meantime she will continue to use her wheelchair.

Thankfully Marie ended up with the right people who were determined to help her, because many others would have given up on her or had her euthanized due to her birth defect.

Today, Marie is happier than ever and is so grateful for her beautiful second chance at life.
