Newfoundlands are strong, massive dogs. Out of all the large dog breeds, Newfoundlands top the chart as the 5th largest in the world, standing at around 27-30 inches tall and weighing as much as 150 pounds.
Although they are renowned for their massive size and large coats, if you take a closer look, you will discover they are just gentle giants.
As their breed name suggests, they originate from the Canadian island of Newfoundland. Fisherman in the area needed dogs who could aid them on board.
And with their natural ability to swim due to their partially webbed feet, Newfoundlands were their best choice. The big dogs kept warm by their fur, were strong enough to save a grown man from drowning.
Aside from their strength and skills, Newfoundlands are admired for a variety a heap of other reasons. For one, their kind nature adds to their charm. They’ve got a lot to give, that’s for sure!
And the photos below show people have made extra room to welcome these gentle, fluffy giants into their lives.
