One evening in Naples, Florida, Laura Metroka was driving when she spotted a pack of four coyotes darting across the road. Thrilled by the rare sight, she slowed down, pulled out her phone, and tried to snap a few photos.
“This one seemed distracted and was stuck on the other side of the roadway,” Metroka told The Dodo. “I slowed down when I saw the pack and then stopped to take this picture. I took a bunch and then he ran off.”
Later, when she scrolled through her shots, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
The “coyote” in her photo didn’t look like a coyote at all.
“When I saw the picture, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
What should have been a majestic wildlife photo ended up looking like… well, anything but. The blurry figure sparked a flood of hilarious comparisons once Metroka shared it online.
Commenters guessed everything from a tumbleweed to a dust bunny, a Monet painting, a bird, a ghost, the Tasmanian Devil, the Roadrunner, even a swarm of bees.
What started as an attempt to capture a beautiful nature moment ended up being something much better: a photo that brought joy and laughter to thousands of people.
Sometimes, the best memories come from the pictures that don’t go as planned.
