Andy the Weimaraner is a curious, playful pup with a big heart — and, sometimes, a little too much curiosity for his own good.
Recently, while exploring his backyard, Andy stumbled upon something unusual. Moments later, his mom noticed him pacing around with a suspicious look — and something small dangling from his mouth.
When she got closer, her heart skipped a beat.
Two tiny legs were poking out between Andy’s jaws.
“I froze,” she later shared. “At first, I didn’t know what I was seeing.”
But then she realized — Andy was holding a baby rabbit.
Panicked but gentle, she asked Andy to drop what was in his mouth, even offering him a treat. But the pup refused. His grip wasn’t rough — in fact, he was holding the bunny carefully, almost protectively, as if he knew the little creature needed help.
Still, Andy’s mom worried. Dog mouths can carry bacteria harmful to wild animals, so she needed to act quickly.
Then Andy did something incredible.
He turned and started walking, glancing back to make sure she followed. Step by step, he led her across the yard — straight to a small nest tucked into the grass. That’s where he gently released the rabbit, unharmed.
Carefully wrapping the baby in a towel, Andy’s mom checked him over. Miraculously, there wasn’t a single scratch.
“OK, let’s bring you back,” she said softly.
She placed the bunny back in the nest, where he immediately nestled up to his family. Later that day, she put a little barrier around the burrow to make sure they’d be safe from curious paws.
Thanks to Andy’s surprising gentleness — and his mom’s quick thinking — the baby bunny got a second chance at life, right where he belonged.
