For the past several months, Louise Drolz has had a rather unusual roommate in her home on the Sydney Harbour foreshore.
His name is Stanley — and he lives in her toilet.

“Yes, you read that right,” Drolz joked in a post about him. “He lives in the loo — and has for nearly a year.”
Stanley is a wild frog who somehow decided that Drolz’s guest bathroom was the perfect place to call home. And though Drolz has no idea how he got there, she has a pretty good guess.
“My house is surrounded by littoral rainforest, and we often find froggies hopping about the place,” Drolz told The Dodo. “It’s likely that Stanley wandered into the bathroom one day when the lid was up — and decided the toilet was the safest spot from predators.”
From that moment on, the toilet became his personal pond.

The guest bathroom doesn’t get much use, which probably made it even more appealing to Stanley. Sometimes he disappears for a few hours or even a few weeks, but somehow, he always hops back home.
“At first, I tried to relocate him,” Drolz admitted. “But he always came back. He probably figures he’s safer there than in the garden.”

Since she has other toilets in the house, Drolz decided to let Stanley keep this one. She even adjusted the water level to make it easier for him to climb in and out — though he doesn’t seem too interested in leaving.
“There’s a more than ample supply of food in the sewer system,” Drolz said. “It’s teeming with insects. Stanley isn’t trapped — he can come and go as he pleases. But why would he? It’s safe, it’s comfortable, and there’s an endless buffet.”
To Drolz, the toilet has simply become Stanley’s personal little sanctuary — a cozy, hidden pool he’s made his own.
“He seems quite content with his life,” she said.
And honestly, who can blame him?
